Dylan Etheridge was found guilty of manslaughter while OUI in the death of 20-year-old Amber Pelletier in East Boston on Thursday, Dec. 8, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office reports.
Prosecutors said that Etheridge hit several parked cars while potentially driving at 80 miles per hour down Bennington Street in East Boston on May 5, 2019, NECN reports.
His car eventually flipped and skidded across the road, striking a concrete barrier and leaving the other people inside the car trapped. Pelletier was one of these individuals.
Etheridge later left the scene before first responders arrived and check himself into Mass General Hospital about eight hours later, the DA's Office reports.
The other crash survivor identified Etheridge as the driver while blood collected from the steering wheel was later determined to be his, the office continues.
“This man’s reckless and senseless actions left one person dead and another seriously injured and endangered every motorist and pedestrian in the vicinity that day," Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. "We’re grateful for the jury’s work and their verdict and we will continue to support the individuals and families impacted by this tragedy."
Pelletier, of Central Falls, RI, graduated from La Salle Academy in 2016, her obituary reads. She had just finished her junior year at St. Leo University in Florida where she majored in psychology and minored in education when she was killed.
Pelletier also racked up several accolades for cheerleading and dance and was "adored" by her children at her job with Dr. Daycare, the obituary continues.
Etheridge's sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 16, the office reports.
